Description

Our client is a leader in the production of packaging glass products in Bulgaria.

Currently, they are looking for an experienced Chief Accountant to join their team in Sofia.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring oversight, governance, and quality assurance of local accounting, tax, and statutory processes.

Job Profile for Chief Accountant
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Lead monthly and annual closing processes, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to the group finance
  • Prepare statutory financial statements and maintain compliant accounting records
  • Ensure accurate accounting entries, reconciliations, and compliance with local regulations
  • Manage all tax matters, including filings, provisions, audits, and liaisons with authorities
  • Monitor tax changes and advise on risks and optimisation opportunities
  • Coordinate internal, external, and tax audits; act as the main contact for auditors and regulators
  • Oversee banking relationships and support financing activities with the group finance department
  • Prepare and analyse management reports, KPIs, and business performance data
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and investment/CAPEX evaluations
  • Provide financial insights, ad-hoc analysis, and decision-making support
  • Manage and develop the finance team, including training and performance
  • Ensure implementation of group finance policies, procedures, and internal controls

Candidate Profile for Chief Accountant

  • Must be fluent in Bulgarian and English, both written and spoken
  • Several years of experience in accounting, taxation, or audit, ideally within an industrial or multinational environment
  • Proven experience in managing statutory closing processes and tax compliance
  • Experience leading or coordinating finance teams
  • Strong knowledge of local GAAP, tax legislation, and statutory reporting requirements
  • Good understanding of IFRS and its interaction with local accounting standards
  • Experience with SAP FI/CO or similar ERP systems
  • Solid understanding of internal controls and compliance frameworks
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Effective communicator with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills
